MSATT SURVIVES THE WIND

2 Sep by Geoff McNamara

While much of the south-east of the country suffered badly in today’s gale-force winds, MSATT survived the onslaught. Wind gusts up to 98 km/h – a new record!* – were recorded. MSATT endured it all despite being on the west-facing side of Mount Stromlo and experiencing the full force of the winds. But other than some up-turned furniture, the domes and the precious telescopes they protect were completely unaffected.

Special thanks to Howard, Mount Stromlo grounds-keeper extraordinaire, for keeping an eye on the facility during the day and doing some emergency weighing down of one of the chairs. This is just the most recent of favours Howard has done for MSATT. We wouldn’t be there if it weren’t for that man.

No news on when we’ll be able to get back to teaching. Stay tuned!

*New wind records:
7:30am – 98 km/h
11:00am – 92 km/h
