LIGHT POLLUTION GUIDE

11 Aug by Geoff McNamara

Here’s some clear and logical guidance on artificial lighting. Outdoor (paths and steps) lighting at MSATT is deliberately kept to a minimum and is red-tinted to simultaneously preserve the safety and dark adaptation of students and neighbours alike. We’ve also had trees planted* to help reduce the spread of unwanted lights (although the harsh conditions at Mount Stromlo killed off half a dozen saplings that now need replacement). Simple things can be done to preserve the night sky for our kids and adults alike without compromising safety.
